Mission

 

Our mission is to achieve high academic success and to raise well-rounded individuals who are well versed in English Language and Literature and Western culture with a contemporary educational approach. The Program Educational Objectives envisaged for our department graduates to achieve their professional expectations and their careers in the near future are as follows:

  • To provide students with the necessary knowledge and equipment about English language, culture, history and literature.
  • To train students as philologists who have a critical perspective, have developed analytical skills, can communicate effectively, are creative, are aware of their responsibilities and have professional ethics awareness.
  • To ensure that students are raised as individuals who can communicate across cultures and interpret these cultures through English literature.
  • To raise individuals who can combine the values ​​of our country and society with the values ​​of the West, who can internalize and express these values ​​correctly and effectively.
  • In addition to enabling students to use English at an advanced level, we also aim to provide them with the ability to teach this language.
  • To ensure that students grow up as individuals who can adapt to the requirements of the age and use information technologies effectively.
  • To provide students with the opportunity to become individuals who can conduct research in their fields and evaluate these studies from an impartial and scientific perspective.
    In addition, our department has undertaken the duty of providing education, conducting research, providing services and producing solutions at international standards, by interacting with society and prioritizing people.


Vision

The vision of the Department of English Language and Literature is to be a well-equipped department that operates at an international level and leaves its mark on the future. Our vision is also to train contemporary philologists who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to serve in all areas of English Philology, who have internalized ethical values, who are aware of the realities of the world and who have adopted the importance of lifelong learning. The Undergraduate Program, designed in a total of 8 semesters in 4 years, aims to provide students with advanced language skills, literary concepts, literary history, literary and critical theories, basic knowledge of the field of culture and professional competence in the fields of language, literature, criticism and cultural studies. 

Our department also aims to be a department that inspires and guides by producing knowledge, art, technology and services on a universal scale.

 

SDU Western Languages ​​and Literature has adopted the following as its basic principles;
