An Event Titled 'Author Reading, Talk, and Book Signing Day' Was Held at Our Faculty with the Participation of Author Burçak GÖNÜL
Author Burçak GÖNÜL met with students and academics during the "Author Reading, Talk, and Book Signing Day" event organized at our faculty. The event, moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nezih TATLICAN, a faculty member of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, took place in the Türker Taşaltın Conference Hall. It began with a reading from the author’s book Tanrıçanın Serzenişi ("The Goddess's Complaint").
In her discussion of the book, which focuses on women's resistance to societal pressures, the process of self-reconstruction, and female solidarity, Burçak Gönül expressed the importance of writing in her life with the following words: “For me, writing is the best way to express myself. It is both my passion and an inner journey.” She mentioned how her travels and the people she met had inspired her writing, and shared the emotional process she underwent while dealing with difficult themes such as pedophilia, female genital mutilation, and incest. When writing stories based on real-life experiences, she emphasized the importance of sensitivity and stated, “I made sure not to hurt anyone with my words.” She also shared her views on social inequality and patriarchal culture, highlighting the pressure women exert on each other and stating, “The way to break this chain lies in education and awareness.”
At the end of the event, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Bilge Hürmüzlü Kortholt, presented a certificate of appreciation to Burçak Gönül. In her speech, Prof. Dr. Hürmüzlü Kortholt drew attention to the importance of female solidarity, stating, “Women, no matter where they live or under what conditions, have the strength to hold onto each other. This solidarity endures, even as years pass.” The program concluded with Burçak Gönül signing her books and taking commemorative photos with the participants.
