The Department of Art History was established in 1993 and began admitting graduate students in the 2006-2007 academic year. It initiated undergraduate education in the 2014-2015 academic year. The department comprises six faculty members and one research assistant, who are engaged in the study of Turkish and Islamic Art, Byzantine Art, Western Art and Archaeology of the Turkish World and Medieval Cultures. The department offers a curriculum comprising eight semesters of study, each spanning 14 weeks
