About Us

Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Süleyman Demirel University was established in 1992, simultaneously with the establishment of the university. In accordance with the Presidential Decree no. 7477 within the Official Gazette no. 32269 dated 04.08.2023, Süleyman Demirel University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences was closed, and the science departments conjoined the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. In accordance with the Presidential Decree no. 32269 dated 04.08.2023, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was established, and the departments related to social sciences were included in the faculty. The faculty has 11 departments, including Archaeology, Western Languages and Literature, Geography, Eastern Languages and Literature, Philosophy, Translation and Interpreting, Psychology, Art History, Sociology, History, Turkish Language and Literature. Apart from the Eastern Languages and Literature and Translation and Interpreting departments, undergraduate education is conducted actively. In accordance with the decision taken by YÖK (Council of Higher Education) for the 2024-2025 Academic Year, the evening education program has been closed, and all the newly enrolled students have been included in the daytime education program. Students are also allowed to do a minor and double major, provided they meet certain criteria. Our faculty also conducts graduate-level education through the Social Sciences Institute. Students who complete the graduate programs carried out within the Social Sciences Institute are entitled “expert of science” for master’s and “doctor of science” for PhD, paving the way for academic career opportunities. Our faculty, committed to conducting education within the framework of world scientific quality standards, employs 107 academic staff. This commitment ensures that you, as a student, will receive a high standard of education. Moreover, to carry out the administrative work on a sound basis in the faculty, we have 28 personnel. There are three conference halls eponymously named “Prof. Dr Bayram Kodaman”, “Şehit Sezgin Uludağ”, and “Türker Taşaltın”. These halls host activities of faculty students as well as activities of various university clubs. The conference halls also hold scientific meetings of variety. Additionally, there are three laboratories within the faculty that the geography department uses. Under the leadership of academics holding scientific ethics and competence, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences aims to educate individuals who are not only committed to the fundamental values of our country but also observe its strategic goals. This mission instils a sense of national pride and responsibility in our students, who adopt knowledge and skills that have universal validity, prioritize a critical approach, and aim to practice their knowledge and skills for the benefit of humanity.
