The department of Chemistry was founded in 1993. It started its education and training in the academic term of 1993-1994. The major fields of study of the department are: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Biochemistry.

Education:
Every year, totally 80 students are admitted into the department for daytime and evening education.
In the chemistry undergraduate program, along with the compulsory theoretic, operative and laboratory courses, we also offer elective courses on technological and scientific research methods in the 3rd and 4th years. The program offers fundamental chemistry courses during the four years of education, and the program also includes theoretical and operative courses in collaboration. Furthermore, the students can optionally do internship in the industry. In their senior years, students learn how to do an independent research, preparing a dissertation under the supervision of a faculty member. The students of the department have the chance to obtain the skills of fundamental chemistry knowledge and skills, together with the chance to improve their skills to analyze and solve scientific problems in the fields they are going to choose in the future. The department of chemistry supported by the adequate facilities and tools, also provides post-graduate education on the current scientific and technological level.

The Work Fields of the Chemists:
The chemists, who analyze the structure of substances and produce new compounds for the benefit of humans, are also the producers of the products that are used in many fields such as medicine, fertilizers, synthetic fiber, paint industry and cement. Chemists may work in the fields of research and/or quality control departments of the private corporations or the government agencies that produce food, medicine, textile, paint, glass, soap, oil, detergent, beverage, iron and steel. They can also find the opportunity to work in scientific research centers and hospital laboratories. The chemists completing their undergraduate education can work as teachers in the field of education provided they get a Pedagogy Certificate.
Scientific Research:
In our department, scientific studies conducted in the major fields of Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical chemistry, and Biochemistry are supported by Suleyman Demirel University Scientific Research Fund, Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (Tübitak), research projects and ready support projects. The principal research subjects conducted in our department are adsorption, ion exchange, Separation membranes, separations with chromatographic methods, oxime synthesis, reaction and non-aqueous medium kinetics, fuel cells, electrochemistry, polymers, conductor polymers, electrorheology of polymers, organic compound syntheses, Herbal Extractive Substances Chemistry, Cellulose and Paper Chemistry, DNA and enzyme genetics, and protein chemistry.
