SDU Department of History was established in 1993, gave its first graduates in 1997. In the 1994-1995 academic year opened the evening education program. Since its inception, department has been trying to renew itself with modern methods and enrich Turkey's knowledge in the field of history. Based on the fact that the memory of society will be strengthened through historical research, our department strives to contribute to the achievement of a healthy consciousness of the people of our country about the past, who know themselves and the world. One of the main goals of our department is to educate intellectual-contemporary students who examine the past in an objective way from a critical point of view and who can look at the problems of the country and the world from a wide perspective. Another of the main goals is to specialize in the field of history, to train researchers with a strong intellectual background who can make academic publications and comments on historical subjects. In this context, besides the undergraduate program, Master's and doctoral programs are carried out by our department. Today, political, economic, ethnic, religious, etc. problems in areas have a direct impact on global and regional policies. In addition, the rapid shrinking of the world with rapid advances in technology reveals from another dimension how important knowledge in the field of history is. In this context, our department puts forward academic studies and strives to educate students in order to serve to establish a connection between the past, present and future. Graduates of our department have the opportunity to find work in universities and many public and private institutions, especially in schools affiliated to the Ministry of Education.
