Our Mission
To provide students with a rigorous education in order to improve their perspectives on life, increase their employment opportunities, understand the society they live in and contribute to it. By conveying the history and theory of sociology, scientific methods and understanding of social science to students, we develop their sociological imagination and transfer critical thinking skills to our students.
Our vision
Our vision in the sociology program is to support students on their path to becoming knowledgeable, well-rounded and effective members of our society by providing a rigorous curriculum to learn about themselves and life. It is to transfer all the skills provided by sociology education to students. To help our students work for a more innovative, inclusive, fair and sustainable future.
General Information
The Department of Sociology was established in 1993 and started accepting students for the first time in the 1994-1995 Academic Year. Our department offers a thesis program to undergraduate students and our students graduate by completing their undergraduate theses.
Our department aims to provide its students with theoretical knowledge in various fields of sociology and the ability to recognize and analyze various social phenomena based on this knowledge in the best possible way at an international level.
For this purpose, we offer our students:
· Acquiring skills in conducting field research and subjecting them to statistical evaluations in a computer environment at the end of the teaching process.
· Ability to produce research on any social phenomenon; To gain the ability to conduct a scientific study by gaining skills in organizing the theoretical or practical phases of this research, analyzing it, and reporting the results.
· An environment that supports both international and domestic student mobility through different programs such as Erasmus, Farabi, Mevlana.
· Various clubs and societies where students develop themselves by participating in social activities.
Employment opportunities for students graduating from our department:
When our students graduate, they pursue careers in a wide range of public and private employment fields related to society and people. However, the employment areas preferred by our students are human resources, media, research companies and public relations. Our students also participate in employment as teachers in public schools by completing the conditions required by the Ministry of National Education.
In order to enter the department, it is necessary to get sufficient Equal Weight (EA) points in the Student Selection Examination.
