ISPARTA MUSEUM
HELLENISTIC ROMAN (PERIOD) CERAMICS
(Prof. Dr. Murat FIRAT)
Isparta Museum is among the important archeological museums of Pisidia Region. In the museum there are ceramic/pottery groups obtained in various forms (rescue excavations, purchases etc.). The ceramic collection of the museum, the 280 solid works whose inventory has been completed as result of the studies, will be examined from a new perspective within the scope of the project. It is important to note that some of these vessels transferred to Isparta Museum from Afyon and İstanbul Archaological Museums. For this reason, it is controversial that some of the analyzed works are Pisidia finds. The works handled within the scope of the project consist of example from the Hellenistic Period to the end of Roman Imperial Period. Among the artifacts studied in our study, the examples belonging to the Hellenistic Period consists of mold-made bowls, coarse ceramics and unguentarium groups. The vessels from Roman Imperial Period, on the other hand, constitute the most concentrated group in terms of quantity. Red slipped vessels, coarse ceramic/pottery groups and unguentariums draw attention as the most intensely observed products in this process. As a result of the first phase studies carried out within the scope of the project., it is seen that Pisidia Region has been in contact with Ionia, Caria, Lydia and Phrgiya regions since the early stages as can be seen from the previous studies. In the Roman Imperial Period, it was concluded that the products of the important production centers in the region were preferred rather than the imported products from the distant regions.
