Mission, Vision

The mission of the Department is to train archaeologists who are capable of conducting scientific excavations and research in the field of archaeology, closely following scientific developments and adapting their acquired experience and skills to their area of work. It aims to uncover Turkey's cultural heritage using scientific methods and to share and promote the findings with the scientific community. Furthermore, the Department is dedicated to ensuring the preservation of excavated cultural assets through scientific techniques and integrating them into the economic sphere. Beyond the scope of education and instruction, the institution is committed to nurturing well-rounded individuals capable of imparting their knowledge and skills to their surroundings, who are independent, innovative, contemporary, articulate, industrious, inquisitive, contemplative, and honest. By engaging with society and prioritizing human-centered approaches, it aspires to provide education, undertake research, and propose solutions that meet international standards.

The institution is committed to cultivating future scholars, museum professionals, specialists for Conservation Boards, and experts for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism who are knowledgeable on a universal scale, contemporary in outlook, and pioneering in their fields, through its educational programs.
